USWNT Update – we’re number one (again)!
By: Melissa | May 23rd, 2008A two week training camp for the US Women’s National Team opened at the Home Depot Center this past Monday. Pia Sundhage brought in 27 players to compete for a 20 person roster in preparations for the upcoming Peace Cup games against Australia ( June 15), Brazil (June 17), and Italy (June 19). Not in camp are goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart and captain Christie Rampone who are both recovering from injuries. Sundhage invited Kristin Luckenbill to replace Barnhart as well as newbie Kendall Fletcher from the U-21 team. Ali Krieger will join the camp after she is released from her club in Germany. The complete roster is here.
And according to the USWNT blog at Ole Ole, we’ve moved back to the number one position in the FIFA rankings.
The stats of the US Womens Team are excellent so far this year. The team played 14 matches, won 13 and tied only 1 (against Canada in the CONCACAF Cup Final – the US won in the PK Shootout).
48 goals scored and 10 allowed. And recovering the first place in the FIFA Ranking.
Congratulations! Right now, I cannot find any information if the Peace Cup games will be available to watch on tv or online. If anyone knows how we can watch the games, please share the knowledge!
And look for the team to make an appearance on the June 13 airing of The Price is Right. I just know those ladies are gonna p0wn in the Showcase Showdown.
