It's cool. I just missed the bell and tacky suits. Very happy I was able to get the info when it happened.

I know the 2008 MLS Draft was broadcast on their site. I wound up watching a bit of it at the time. The video was also up for a few days afterwards. I know that Amazon is either creating or already created a service similar to Akami (but muuuuch cheaper) for serving video content over the web. Might be just the thing for the WPS to look into.

I was actually at SFO getting the Twitter feed as the draft went down, and my plane was ascending as I got the Ifeoma text in Round 4. Twitter allows us to create a community around news that matters to women's soccer fans in a new, up-to-the-second, and unique way. Plus, in such a short amount of time, the list of WPS followers has grown exponentially. The draft may have seemed anti-climactic, but hats off to Karyn at the league office for finding a way to get the news out immediately as it happens. But our ears and eyes are open too, so if you have additional suggestions or technologies that might be better utilized for these types of announcements, please send them on :-) Amanda

Yes, good comprehensive writeup. I think plenty is known about these women, but the apparent paucity of info is just a symptom of how little women's soccer is covered by the press and how much the women have to move around to find gainful employment. Some of their resumes look like endless shopping lists.

PS - Melissa is a little depressed about how her Bay Area team turned out...just sayin.

So true! I was trying to get this post out as fast as possible as well as getting short blurbs written for each player chosen. It's really hard to reduce these womens' careers to a sentence or two!

Nice write up. I am surprised so little is known about most of the players drafted. Most have several years experience playing in the semi-pro leagues while waiting for the real deal to come together. Many have experience of one kind or another in the national ranks. And all were superb in college. One of the unsung stars: Amy LePeilbet, who I was hoping would go to LA or Bay area.
