The build-up… updates
By: Melissa | June 8th, 2008This past week, I successfully passed the San Jose Offside blog torch to Sean and Ian, the Chicago WPS team unveiled their name and logo, I celebrated my birthday at a cabin on the Russian River, and my friend texted me from the Chicago/DC United game to inform me that she will be writing the Red Stars blog for The Offside (my reply? she will very shortly make women’s soccer her bitch).
And what do we have going on? Well, two of our future WPS teams have been a bit busy…
* The NY/NJ Sky Blue recently hired former Brazilian great Sissi in a scouting role.
* Current Brazilian great and 2007 FIFA women’s player of the year, Marta, is apparently in talks to join the W-League club, FC Indiana. FC Indiana has a partnership with the Chicago WPS team. Does this mean we may see her playing for the Red Stars come April?
* Season tickets for both the Chicago and New Jersey teams went on sale this past week.
In USWNT news, Pia announced the Peace Cup roster and the team left Los Angeles for South Korea. Their first game is against Australia on June 15th and as far as I know, none of the Peace Cup games will be televised in the US.
