Someone paid attention in class when they rattled on about this “New Media”

By: Melissa | August 4th, 2008

While I was busy rekindling my love for Benny Feilhaber, Amanda Vandervort went off and made a one-stop shopping site for WPS. Looks like anyone can sign up, create an account, start blogging, post in the forums, check loads of pictures and video, and even pledge their allegiance to a WPS team by joining their group (the Red Stars have the most members, but LA & Dallas need a little help y’all). She’s even got Leslie Osborne and Cat Whitehill writing for it… as well as some random dude working in the San Francisco WPS offices. Hello random dude!* So the site looks something like OleOle+Facebook+Bigsoccer and it’s probably going to do more to promote the league and bring in new fans than any traditional advertising. And to everybody reading this, it’s time to bookmark

WPS FanZone

Or better yet, sign up for an account! I just did and I have no friends so please sign up and friend me. I humbly request you feed my fragile ego by establishing meaningless virtual relationships with me via the internets. But I won’t be supporting any WPS teams until we get one in the Bay Area. I’ve got to put my foot down somewhere.

* And it appears that random dude is Graham Hays. Hello.

What’s this junk about you not having a team to support? Red Stars actually have their stuff together. How can you not support them? I’ll send you a fashionable window cling. Or how bout a pin?

I guess that’s why we can’t be internet friends. ;)

Wow! Melissa, This is a great post, thank you!!! But I wish I could take credit for the WPS social network. I’ll claim “power user” status, but certainly not creator… that goes to WPS, Tonya Antonucci, Rachel Epstein, Karyn Lush, and all the master-minds over there at the League office. Keep up the great work here at The Offside :-) Maybe you can upload your RSS onto your WPS blog? That would be cool!

Amanda: HA! I had a feeling you didn’t create the site but I’ll just give you credit anyways.
