News Round Up

Sorry for the delay. I couldn’t stand back while NO-ONE at The Offside wrote about the San Jose Earthquakes during their winning streak. And quite a lot has happened while I was not paying attention to women’s soccer so I’m going to have to revert to bullet points to get through all of this…

* The USWNT Draft is September 15th the week of September 15th. Oh good lord that’s this coming Monday. It also was supposed to be the day I was to go to court to fight my stupid ticket. Lucky for me and this blog, I went into the courthouse this past Monday and begged the nice lady behind the bulletproof window to give me traffic school instead. You are welcome to either applaud my sneaky ingenuity where I “traded” my court date to get permission to take traffic school, or you may berate me for abusing the system and it’s ridic bureaucracy.

* The Bay Area team’s head coach is… uh… Albertin Montoya who was an assistant over at Stanford and Santa Clara and who also coached the owners’ daughters. Score one for nepotism!

* Jersey Sky Blue’s WPS team is now Sky Blue FC.

* Looks like the San Diego team is on hold at least until the 2010 season.

* Is Charlie Naimo the new head coach of LA? File this under rumors and speculation until there’s an official announcement.

* The Washington Freedom are having a press conference to announce their draft picks! Ooh, I wonder if Billy will go? The Freedom also now have a Twitter Feed. Awesome.

* Ireland’s head coach, Noel King, is in the States and was at the W-League Combine to scout out potential players for Ireland’s National Team. He’s looking for Irish-American players who have parents or grandparents from the motherland.

* The UEFA Women’s Cup qualifiers are happening right now over in Europe. FC Indiana have quite a few players on loan to participating teams (thanks for putting me on your email list) and are keeping tabs on their progress over at the FC Indiana website.

Hmmm, there’s probably even more to report on but for now, that’s it. And I’m off to the Quakes game this Saturday and quite possibly watching the post-game lolz at the Downtown San Jose Britannia Arms while various players become bartenders for the night.

“The USWNT Draft is September 15th”

I think they are starting meetings on the 15th to make decisions, may not be announced til the 19th?

No announcement til the 19th!? Oh man, I’m going to go crazy! I wish I could go to the press conference, but alas, I’ll be in class… Hopefully another loyal reader will fill us in on what goes down.

I definitely think you should throw a few words in your blog about the new Chicago Red Stars supporter section since there isn’t anyone else around here to do that.;) I think they have a twitter feed, too. News doesn’t happen unless I get a twitter about it. It’s just a fact.
