Let the International signings begin!
By: Melissa | January 8th, 2009With the League approving its international contract boilerplate late last month, Sky Blue FC are the first out of the gate to announce for realsies international signings. So welcome to the fold Sarah Walsh and Collette McCallum. And if my memory serves, both play for the Australian National team, both play in the Australian W-League (Walsh for Sydney FC and McCallum for Perth Glory) and both played for last year’s US W-League champions Pali Blues. And it seems Sky Blue coach Sawyers is banking on that familiarity the two already established to help the team offensively.
“The fact that Collette has the experience of knowing Sarah’s game so well, having played with her on the Australian National Team, means we are provided with both talent and stability,” he said. “And to have the skilled play-making of Collette McCallum behind Sarah is a huge asset.”
Sounds good to me. Expect the floodgates to open as the teams finalize their terms and announce their new officially official players. One would hope the League office took a little bit of extra time on these international contract terms to perhaps prevent little snafus like the one below from ever happening again…

Oh and there’s a draft next week too which will be live and direct to you from the recently hacked micro-blogging phenomenon known as Twitter. And Fox Soccer Channel will apparently have a little pre-draft show the night before (details are in the link above).

The WPS website you linked to tries to get all fancy with its 18-step Twitter instructions.
Here are my Simplified Instructions for non-Twitterers:
Step 1: Text “follow womensprosoccer” to 40404.
Step 2: um, there is no Step 2.
… and when you’re tired of getting updates, you text “leave womensprosoccer” to 40404.

So, will we be getting video from the WPS’ locker rooms too? It’s only fair…
And yes, the Pali Blues have been gutted by the WPS!
