Just gotta say is pretty dern cool to see some actual discussions over in this area of The Offside. I hope it keeps up!

With FC Indiana, 30% is quite a lot compared to the incoming WPS teams (i.e. 0%). Also, FC Indiana are, from what I can gather, managing to keep some of the top players (Ocampo for example. Wasn’t she the runner up for FIFA player of the year?). Even Wilt mentioned in a blog of his, he would have hired Shek for the Chicago WPS team under different circumstances… I have no idea what will happen down the line. Transfers, trades, loans. But FC Indiana are managing themselves like a Pro team which is one of the big selling points of WPS.

Don’t worry Cornbloggers, Joe was obviously a big supporter of the USFL, XFL, and NFL Europe… all manly-man leagues in a “real” sport like American football, which of course would never go under!

I too am looking forward to seeing the WPS get rolling (my family has been season ticket holders for the Breakers since the inception of the WUSA), although I have to disagree somewhat with your assessment of FC Indiana. While its true they should have the advantage of whatever chemistry they’ll be able to forge before the other WPS teams — although according to their web site, only 30% of the “old” FC Indiana team remains intact? — chemistry is normally a difference maker only when the skill levels of the teams in question are close. With the quality and experience of the players AND coaches the WPS will encapsulate, I suspect the quality of the product on the field will be very good… as it was with the WUSA. Now if the league can only match in business savvy what they have already proven they can do on the pitch!

I’ve got a prediction … Joe is bitter and has too much time on his hands because he lost his job in this horrible economy brought about by the Republicans … but he’ll continue to vote for them because he buys into all the macho bull and fear-mongering that they spew. He’s an ex-jock whose masculinity is threatened easily and women’s sports is just too much for the fragile ego encased in Joe’s couch-potato body. Sheesh!

Very interesting stuff here. I am looking forward to the next couple of months, as the combines and allocations move along and the teams really start taking shape. Barcellos in St. Louis is a coup on a par with DiCicco in Boston

And speaking of Barcellos (and Brazil) it has occurred to me that anything that USSF can do to discourage the allocation of Marta and Christiane … and maybe a few other Samba Queens … to the same WPS team would be to the good!
