Canadialand. New coach. New year. New ‘tude
By: Melissa | February 7th, 2009
A friend of mine recently made a comment that Canadians are really America’s Cylons. Yeah, I guess that’s true except for the weird red laser eye thing. But the point I’m getting at here is the Canadian women’s national team opens their first 2009 training camp tomorrow in Los Angeles (I guess it’s too cold up in Canada?). And new coach Carolina Morace called up quite a few future WPS players. Here’s the list:
G- Stephanie Labbé (SWE / Piteå IF)
G- Karina LeBlanc (USA / Los Angeles Sol)
G- Erin McNulty (USA / Florida State University)
D- Sasha Andrews (USA / Pali Blues)
D/M- Melanie Booth (Unattached)
D- Allysha Chapman (USA / Louisiana State University)
D/M- Candace Chapman (USA / Boston Breakers)
F- Jonelle Filigno (USA / Rutgers University)
D- Martina Franko (Unattached)
M- Kaylyn Kyle (SWE / Piteå IF)
M/F- Kara Lang (USA / UCLA
M- Diana Matheson (NOR / Team Strømmen FK)
D/M- Marie-Eve Nault (Unattached)
M- Kelly Parker (USA / Sky Blue FC)
F- Jodi-Ann Robinson (Unattached)
M- Leah Robinson (Unattached)
D/M- Clare Rustad (Unattached)
M- Sophie Schmidt (USA / University of Portland)
F- Christine Sinclair (USA / FC Gold Pride)
M- Chelsea Stewart (USA / Vanderbilt University)
F- Melissa Tancredi (USA / St. Louis Athletica)
D/M- Brittany Timko (SWE / Piteå IF)
F- Amy Vermeulen (Unattached)
M- Amy Walsh (CAN / Comètes de Laval)
M/DRhian Wilkinson (NOR / Team Strømmen FK)
D- Emily Zurrer (USA / University of Illinois)
Wow, so many players not attached to any clubs. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like the Canada Soccer website has a schedule of upcoming games ’cause it would certainly be good to know when some WPS teams can expect to loose valuable players during the season.
