Confused? You’re not alone

By: Melissa | Comments 1 Comment

The Fairgame blog got a little help interpreting the International Draft by conducting an interview with Commissioner Tonya Antonucci. The interview does shed some light on a few things but at the same time… doesn’t. We do learn that no German players were part of the draft because the players are under long-term [...]

Serious Competition for WPS?

By: Tom | Comments 3 Comments

The genius of comedy is in its timing, and the same goes for spite.
For several months, we have heard the tremors of fear in the English women’s game about the formation of WPS over here. The Premier League across the Atlantic — the mighty Arsenal and one or two other clubs aside — is [...]

WPS International Draft Results Announced

By: Tom | Comments 6 Comments

Well, ending a process about as opaque as a papal succession selection, WPS belied its own website’s promise to reveal the draft results tomorrow and instead tonight revealed which teams will have the opportunity to sign which world class international players, following last week’s domestic allocation.
Here are the full results on the WPS site. Due [...]

Breaking Down the Draft

By: Melissa | Comments 5 Comments

First things first. If you haven’t already bookmarked the NJ Sky Blue FC blog, you should get on that immediately. The writers are excellent and my only wish is that they started their blog over here instead of on Blogspot.
Annnd, today they take a stab at interpreting the draft. I read those [...]

Drafts Schmafts

By: Melissa | Comments 4 Comments

As a fan of the sport, I often find myself reading blogs completely unashamed to post somewhat gratuitous sexual content of the straight male variety. I guess this content has something to do with soccer, but I honestly can’t really complain since I ramble off-topic all the time. BUT, I can certainly add [...]

More Excitement Than You Can Shake A Stick At

By: Melissa | Comments 1 Comment

It’s allocation eve. A process Peter Wilt describes as “part Match.com, part medical school national matching day, part MLS SuperDraft.” And on allocation eve, the disturbingly quiet Los Angeles team announced Abner Rogers will be their head coach. Ok, there are two important facts I gleaned from this press release. One, [...]

Allocation Date Set

By: Melissa | Comments 2 Comments

And it will be Tuesday, September 16th at the Sports Museum of America in Manhattan. Tonya Antonucci and Steve Nash will be the ones to announce who is going where as well as any other new news tidbits the league is ready to reveal. It doesn’t look like the event will be televised [...]

News Round Up

By: Melissa | Comments 5 Comments

Sorry for the delay. I couldn’t stand back while NO-ONE at The Offside wrote about the San Jose Earthquakes during their winning streak. And quite a lot has happened while I was not paying attention to women’s soccer so I’m going to have to revert to bullet points to get through all of [...]

World breathes sigh of relief, WPS team finally in the Yay

By: Melissa | Comments No Comments

How Bay Area have I been this week? Hmm… lessie:
1. Spent Monday in a friend’s backyard eating organic, locally grown food, bought at her Farmer’s Market, and chatting with two lesbians about their recent wedding.
2. Spent part of hangover Tuesday relaxing at Baker Beach with the very picturesque view of Golden Gate [...]
